Never judge book by it's cover . . .

Ralph, unlike many of his peers, has always read the books he was commissioned to illustrate covers for.

"I would read each book looking for a key moment to illustrate" Ralph

Images were often inspired by places he had visited or even by the cat sitting on his drawing board!

Ralph would frequently take reference photographs, just to be sure he was using the most dramatic and dynamic poses.
