Back in Force . . .

The period between 1977 and 1980 felt like an eternity for Star Wars fans. Fortunately the follow up was definitely worth the wait!

On Empire Ralph worked in England for approximately eight months.

"We finished Star Wars and George took an office at Universal Studios. I suppose the idea of a sequel was a possibility from the very start. At some point I got a call and was asked if I would like to begin work on Empire Strikes Back."

Ralph produced more artwork for The Empire Strikes Back than for any of the other Star Wars films.

"I started with my painting of the Metal Castle in the snow on Hoth. George kind of works off the top of his head with certain things that he would like to see - then weaves them into the script.

We started working on other things like the snow battle and cloud city, which we had already started to work on in Star Wars, but it was edited out. I had a painting of cloud city from Star Wars, which got changed quite a bit."
