Bringing the Art off the Page... Ralph created a number of designs for Darth Vader's helmet before settling on a design he liked the most. The clearest rendition of this appeared on the cover of the original Star Wars novelization back in the 70's. It was this design that EFX Collectables chose to develop as the first in their range of McQuarrie concept helmets. Translating Ralph's design faithfully into 3D was no simple task, it would take the most modern 3D CAD technology and the patience and talent of an extremely skilled Modeler. Bryan Ono of EFX was responsible for finding the right guy for the job - he brought in modeler Jay Kushwara. Fortunately, Ralph was such a stickler for detail and careful draftsmanship that Jay was able to faithfully recreate what Ralph had in mind with very little modification. Jay constantly referred back to Ralph's original art, making refinements and changes as he went. Eventually checking back with Ralph for his final approval. Ralph was very happy with the finished article. But before your rush out to buy one, they're now completely sold out! However keep an eye on EFX as further RMQ helmets may be just around the corner... |
